Overview

At the core of Christianity is our personal relationship with Jesus. In this curriculum we will dive into the difference between religion and relationship. We will look at how to foster our relationship with God, and how to receive the love that God has for us. The speakers work hard to build an excitement and a joy around growing in relationship with Jesus, rather than a burden or a “to-do” list of religious duties. They also address some of the hard work that goes into relationship if we really want to see a relationship grow. Our hope is that your teens will be inspired, and find some tools, to invest in a lifetime journey of growing closer to Jesus.

WEEK 1: RELIGION VS RELATIONSHIP
What is the difference between religion and relationship? How can we learn to abide in relationship, rather than getting trapped in a performance mentality of religion?

WEEK 2: FOLLOWING JESUS’ MODEL OF SONSHIP
In this lesson we talk about how to relate to God as his children, and how that looks different than relating to him in other ways. We talk about how Jesus was connected to the Father, and how we are invited into that same connection.

WEEK 3: GETTING TO THE HEART OF RELATIONSHIP
How do we learn to take ownership of our own interior lives? Using the analogy of a garden and a gardener, the speakers lead us to look at  how we can intentionally invest in our own soul care, and build our walk with Jesus.

WEEK 4: RELATIONSHIPS ARE HARD
In this lesson we look at the state of our relationship with Jesus. We do a “DTR”—Determine The Relationship, and then talk about how to move forward intentionally to grow! We talk about some of the hard work of any relationship, and what are some healthy signs of a good one.

WEEK 5: YOU DETERMINE HOW DEEP YOU DIVE
There is so much of God’s love for us to discover. Our only limitation is our own desire. This week we cast vision for how vast the love of God is, and how intentionality is so important for continuing to explore a relationship with him.

WEEK 6: LOVE LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING
One awesome benefit of our relationship with God is that it will produce fruit in our lives. This final lesson leans into that truth, and encourages teens to invest in a relationship with Jesus that isn’t just theoretical, but looks like something in their everyday life.
