PROJECT TIMOTHY 2021

Because we are unable to predict how each region will be able to gather due to COVID, we have decided to provide a nationally sponsored VIRTUAL Project Timothy experience. We encouage youth groups across the nation to participate this year, since it won’t matter if there’s a physical location near you! Below are some quick highlights, and for more details scroll down.

DATES & COST

July 8-11, 2021
$30 per student
(covers T-shirt and care package)

LOCATION

Anywhere you want to be. All main sessions will be made available virtually. You can watch as a youth group, or with other youth groups together. It’s up to you!

WHO SHOULD COME?

This is still for teen leaders. However, since it is virtual, any teen leader in the country can participate! It doesn’t matter if a “site” is near you this year!

  3. Participate in four follow up Zoom calls with all other PT students nationally – June 6, 13, 20, 27

WHAT IS PROJECT TIMOTHY?

HISTORY

In 2009 a group of youth pastors in the Eastern Region of the Vineyard started asking some questions. Given the spectrum in the Vineyard for youth ministry – some churches have amazing volunteer parents leading in their spare time, others have full time paid youth pastors, and everything in between – we wondered, is there a
consistent opportunity for teen leaders to be identified, trained, empowered, and released?

What if we created a place where youth ministries of all shapes and sizes could send their teen leaders for a life changing week of training and empowerment? What if built into this experience was the goal that those teens would go back to their local youth group and church, having signed a one-year commitment to serve and lead there? It was out of this heart, to resource and train teen leaders to be sent back into their churches, that Project Timothy was born.

Since then we have launched 8 other sites across the US (including Puerto Rico!) and 100’s of teens have participated in the last 12 years.

VISION

The basic vision is this: youth leaders identify teen leaders in their groups, and send them to a Project Timothy close to them (the BIG vision is to have one close enough for every church in the US to participate if desired). At Project Timothy, we have three goals for each teen leader:  Personal Growth, Spiritual Growth, and Leadership Growth. We use several methods to try and achieve these goals, as outlined below.

WHAT HAPPENS A NORMAL PT?

(Obviously this year will be different!) Daily we’ll have regional and national speakers offering leadership and ministry training. Our teachings are both motivational and practical—by the end, all students will have been trained in, and practiced, all of the following: giving a short teaching (depending on their year); leading a small group; organizing and leading an outreach; praying the 5-step model over people; and more! We’ll also train and provide opportunities for personal reflection and time with God. Each night we’ll have a time of worship, a teaching, and extended time for prophetic and prayer ministry. We’ll be conducting several community outreaches with the goal of igniting a lasting passion for outreach that they’ll carry home with them. Lastly, we’ll have lots of fun! There will be hiking, swimming, sports, games and lots of other great things to do—building lasting friendships with Vineyard youth from across the region.

WHO SHOULD COME?

Teen leaders (14-17 yrs old) who show leadership potential, and can commit to serving for at least 1 year at their youth group, their church, or their community in a leadership capacity. The goal of Project Timothy is different than a normal youth event. It is not meant for your whole youth gorup. This should be just those who have a desire to lead and in whom you see that potential! Also, current youth pastors/adult leaders who are willing to give up a week and serve as an adult will have their expenses covered by the region (usually one per church, contact us if you are interested).

FOUR YEAR PLAN

Project Timothy is designed so that teens can return each summer throughout their high school career. We’ve tried to articulate the differences in content through the following graphic:
