The fast pace of life, and our culture’s values, tend to draw inward to focus on ourselves. God calls us to love him, love others, and live outside of a “me/I focus.” This series will look at what it means to live selflessly and, taking the focus off ourselves, to live as Christ commands, with love toward others. We will dig into practical ways to put others first remembering “Its not all about me.”
WEEK 1: LIVING SELFLESSLY
In a world that is driven by consumerism, how do we move in the other direction and learn the selfless living Jesus taught us? What practical ways can we start to live selflessly today? How can we become aware of our own attachments to materialism and greed, and learn to combat them?
WEEK 2: LIVING WITH OPEN HANDS
Generosity is much more than giving money. It is having an open-handed approach to all that you own. It is the road to selfless living. How can we learn to look for ways to be generous? How can we start to view our possessions (and time, ability, money, etc) as God’s, and not ours?
WEEK 3: GENEROSITY BRINGS UNITY
Selflessness brings unity. When we have an open-handed generosity toward those around us, it breaks down barriers. When we hold on to our stuff tightly, we become more self-focused on what is best for us. We often forget about those around us.
WEEK 4: THE FIRST SHALL BE LAST
In the Kingdom of God, things are different than in the world. Greatness comes through serving. Getting ahead comes through laying your life down. Let’s learn to embody this upside down kingdom in the way we live our lives.
