For many teens, reading the Bible can be a confusing and boring exercise. However, the practice of reading the Bible is one of the most foundational practices that followers of Jesus have used for millennia to draw near to God. This curriculum is aimed at helping teens grow in their understanding of the Word of God by answering some of the most often asked questions about the Bible. It then will teach them two methods for reading and applying the Bible, in hopes of launching them on the lifelong practice of reading the Bible.
WEEK 1: WHAT IS THE BIBLE?
Where did the Bible come from? Who wrote it? What is the message of the Bible? These are a few of the questions we address in week 1.
WEEK 2: QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BIBLE
Has the Bible changed over time? Aren’t there a bunch of mistakes in the Bible? Who decided what books should be in the Bible? These are a few of the challenges to the veracity of the Bible that we will address in week 2!
WEEK 3: WHY READ THE BIBLE?
Why should we read the Bible? In this lesson we begin to build the argument for the “practice” or “discipline” of reading the Bible. Reading the Bible does so much more than teach us about our faith.
WEEK 4: HOW DO I READ THE BIBLE?
In this lesson we offer practical tips on how to read the Bible in such a way as to actually feel like you are growing from it. We are looking not just to gain information, but to find heart transformation as we read God’s word.
WEEK 5: HOW DO I READ THE BIBLE? PART 2
In this last lesson we introduce one more method for reading the Bible for transformation. We also spend some time discussing the life long importance of developing a practice of reading the Bible.
